Busan Innovation Center Supported Shorts Travel Overseas

53 Foreign Festival Invites for Busan Short Film Quintet

Five short films that received support from the Busan Innovation Center have been making the rounds overseas, having accumulated a combined 53 foreign film festival invitations between them.

The titles are KIM Seung-hee’s The Realm of Deepest Knowing (2017), KIM Na-kyung’s MY TURN (2017), KIM Su-young’s Superpower Girl (2017), BAE Ki-won’s Interview: Sorry Day (2017) and AN Ji-min’s Teaser Horse (translated title).

The Busan Innovation Center set up a program for Korean short films to receive foreign film festival entry support, in order to highlight works with special characteristics. The program selected five titles, which each received KRW 2 million (USD 1,830) to support English subtitle translation, DCP generation and festival submission costs.

MY TURN earned the ‘Air Canada Short Film or Video Award’ from the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival. Meanwhile in Korea the film picked up the Audience Award from the SEOUL International Women’s Film Festival.

The animated short The Realm of Deepest Knowing has been particularly successful, garnering 43 international film festival invitations to date. Its global tour has included a Jury’s Choice Award from the Black Maria Film Festival and the Best Short-Short Prize from the St Cloud Film Fest. The film also earned the CINECUBE Award in the Korean Competition of last year’s Asiana International Short Film Festival in Seoul, in addition to screening at the Slamdance Film Festival among several others.

Superpower Girl was invited to Mórbido Film Fest in Mexico and the Stockholm International Film Festival.
