Seoul Independent Documentary Film Festival Reveals 2018 Finalists

SIDOF to Welcome 10 Features, 13 Shorts and 6 Projects in March



The Seoul Independent Documentary Film Festival (SIDOF) has announced the 23 finalists for this year’s Korean feature and short films competition. 10 documentaries will vie for awards in the feature section, with 13 to be featured in the competitive short film program.

The finalists were whittled down from 92 submissions, spanning 24 features and 68 short films, which were received between November 20 and December 4. In addition, the festival has invited six titles to its Spring Project Production Support program.

Among the feature competition finalists are HEO Chul-nyung’s The Whispering Trees and NAM Seung-suk’s Ha Dong Chae Bok: A Song of Two Humans, which both bowed at the Busan International Film Festival last October, MA Min-ji’s Family in the Bubble, which screened at the Jeonju International Film Festival, KIM Sang-kyu’s To Kill Alice, Raya’s Long Farewell and LEE Won-woo’s Optigraph, all of which debuted at the DMZ International Documentary Film Festival and Glam Our : I Want Zero.G from director HYUN Young-ae, which premiered at the Jecheon International Music & Film Festival before screening at DMZ Docs.

This year’s program selection team featured the participation of Candle Wave Feminists (2017) filmmaker KANGYU Ga-ram, My Place (2014) and Blue Butterfly Effect (2017) director PARK Moon-chil, film critic BYEON Seong-chan and film reporter JEON Ji-hye.

The 2018 Seoul Independent Documentary Film Festival will take place over March 22-29.
