United Pictures Launches THE PREPARATION at Cannes

Market Screenings for ROMANS 8:37 and JIMAMI TOFU

Korean sales agent United Pictures, which handles pictures produced by Opus Pictures, has entered this year’s Cannes Film Market armed with a catalogue that includes a pair of market premieres, a brand new production announcement and several recent commercial titles.

Having their market premieres in France are SHIN Yeon-shick’s new drama Romans 8:37 and the Singapore-Japan co-production Jimami Tofu from directors Jason CHAN and Christian LEE while United’s new pickup is CHO Young-jun’s The Preparation

SHIN’s new film, his seventh following acclaimed indie titles such as The Russian Novel (2012) and The Avian Kind (2015), stars LEE Hyun-ho, appearing in a SHIN's film for the fifth time, as a member of a church who faces a dilemma.

Jimami Tofu, which was supported by the Okinawa Film Office, is a romantic drama about a Chinese Singaporean chef who travels to Okinawa and begs an older chef to teach him about the local food.

From debut director CHO Young-jun, The Preparation stars KIM Sung-kyun of Nameless Gangster: Rules of the Time (2012) as a 30-year-old man with the mental capacity of a ten-year-old. He lives with his mother (played by KO Doo-shim of 2010’s Sunny) until she is diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Their three recent titles are commercial titles including the melodrama Oneday from My Dear Enemy (2008) director LEE Yoon-ki, featuring stars CHUN Woo-hee (THE WAILING) and KIM Nam-gil (Pandora), the 80s-set political investigation thriller Ordinary Person with Hide and Seek (2013) star SON Hyun-ju, and the court drama New Trial with KANG Ha-neul (DONGJU; The Portrait of A Poet) and JUNG Woo (The Himalayas, 2015).
