Women in Film Korea Festival Held on December 7

SON Ye-jin, KIM Tae-ri and YOON Ga-eun Awarded in 2016
 

This year’s Women in Film Korea Festival gave their main prize to legendary actress YOUN Yuh-jung, following her leading role in E J-yong’s The Bacchus Lady. The ceremony took place in the Art Nine Cinema in Seoul on December 7th.

In The Bacchus Lady, which debuted at the Berlin International Film Festival, YOUN plays an ageing prostitute who becomes an unwitting angel of death when she starts to euthanize some of her elderly clients.

Other awards during the night including the Best Actress prize, which went to SON Ye-jin, who this year appeared in the thriller The Truth Beneath and the period drama The Last Princess. Best New Actress prize was picked up by KIM Tae-ri, who made her big screen debut in PARK Chan-wook’s The Handmaiden. YOON Ga-eun was awarded the Best Director prize for her debut The World of Us, another film that premiered at Berlinale this year.

The Truth Beneath’s director LEE Kyoung-mi was also present to receive the Best Screenplay prize, the Best Producer prize was shared among KIM Yoon-mi, KIM I-jung and CHOI Yoon-ju, who collaborated on INSANE, and Best Documentary prize was awarded to Troublers director LEE Young. The Best Technical prize went to sound supervisor HONG Ye-young, who worked on LUCK-KEY, and the Best Marketing accolade went to Atnine Film, which this year pushed films including One Way Trip, The World of Us and Spy Nation

Last year’s top prize went to actress KANG Soo-yeon, the current festival director of the Busan International Film Festival.
