15 years after the release of My Sassy Girl (2001), CHA Tae-hyun returns to the role that launched him into stardom with My New Sassy Girl. The hotly anticipated sequel, a co-production between Korea and China, will premiere in both countries this spring. First up will be China on April 22nd, followed by Korea on May 5th.

The original film, directed by KWAK Jae-yong, featured CHA Tae-hyun alongside Gianna JUN and became a major hit across Asia. In the follow-up, CHA returns as Gyun-woo, who reunites with his first love from elementary school, played by Chinese pop singer Victoria, a member of the K-pop girl band f(x), in her film acting debut. In the film, the pair rekindle the romance and get married.

CHA’s most recent starring role was in the comedy Slow Video (2014). He will soon be seen in the romantic film Because I Love You and will soon begin shooting the blockbuster With God, alongside HA Jung-woo.

My New Sassy Girl is directed by JOH Keun-shik, returning to the director’s chair ten years after the LEE Byung-hun romantic drama Once in a Summer (2006). He debuted in 2002 with Conduct Zero. The director recently took part in promotional events for the film in Beijing. The official Weibo page of My New Sassy Girl has already attracted over 720 million visitors.
