The Easiest Way for Everyone to Write a Scenario

CineHangul, Korea’s First Scenario Editing Program

The scenario editor and analyzer program, “CineHangul”, has been released. It is the first attempt to develop and launch a scenario editing software in Asia. On March 19th, the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), the Producers Guild of Korea (PGK), the Screenwriters Guild of Korea (SGK) and Hancom Inc. signed a business agreement contract and held a product demonstration for “CineHangul”. “KOFIC has a responsibility to standardize technologies and not leave it to the industry. Therefore, we will support the filmmakers’ needs.” Said LEE Joon-dong, KOFIC’s Vice Chairman. KOFIC plans on giving a continuous support to the distribution and development of CineHangul.

Developed by Hancom and PGK since last year, CineHangul is an easily operated scenario editor for writers. Three keys (Tab, Shift, and Enter) allow them to simply write directions, characters, lines and cutaways. Moreover, scenarios written on other word processors can also be imported in CineHangul. Completed scenarios will have a cine extension but users will also be able to save their files as PDF and HWP. If desired, watermarks can be added for security. ‘CineHangul’ also offers a special function called ‘Reporting’ that can make the analysis of previously written characters and locations, as well as running time.

Film institutions and organizations plan on developing more types of software for the film industry, such as ‘Scheduler’, a program that can analyze scenarios by dates, locations or characters, and easy budget planner ‘Budgeter’. These programs aim at helping standardize, rationalize and improve transparency in film productions. CineHangul is available on Hancom’s official website and PGK is currently providing serial numbers for free. For more information, please contact the PGK office. (www.kfpa.net).
