  • JANG Dong-gun Joins Hyun-bin in Period Zombie Film
  • by Pierce Conran /  May 24, 2017
  • KIM Sung-hoon Follows Up CONFIDENTIAL ASSIGNMENT with CHANG-GWOL

Actor JANG Dong-gun will join superstar Hyun-bin in the upcoming period zombie film Chang-gwol (a Korean word which is homonym for both ‘rage’ and ‘outbreak’) from Confidential Assignment director KIM Sung-hoon.

Hyun-bin will play Lee Chung, a talented swordsman prone to gambling and womanizing who is a prince of the Joseon Dynasty and has been taken hostage by the Qing Dynasty. He returns to Joseon after ten years, and after his elder brother’s ascends to the throne, he is faced with dangerous monsters that attack during the night. JANG will play a character who comes up against Lee Chung.

After films such as Late Autumn (2011) and The Fatal Encounter (2014), Hyun-bin enjoyed his greatest success with Director KIM as their first collaboration proved a major successful during the Lunar New Year period earlier this year, when it accrued almost eight million viewers.

JANG Dong-gun was last seen in the hitman thriller No Tears for the Dead (2014) and has a pair of completed films on the way, the revenge thriller Night of 7 Years and the North Korean action-thriller V.I.P. from Warner Brothers.

Casting is currently underway for supporting roles and Chang-gwol is expected to go before cameras at some point in the second half of 2017. Next Entertainment World is on board to finance and distribute the film.
