KWAK Do-won Co-Stars in Election Drama

CHOI Min-shik has selected his next feature project. He will appear in election drama
Mayor of Seoul (working title) along with
KWAK Do-won, who is also in theaters now as the villain of
The Magician.
CHOI will be playing the mayor of Seoul, as he faces a reelection campaign, while KWAK is set to appear as the mayor’s aide. The film will mark the sophomore outing of director
PARK In-jae, who debuted with the thriller
Moby Dick in 2011, featuring
HWANG Jung-min and
KIM Min-hee.
Having cult fame as the protagonist of
PARK Chan-wook’s
Old Boy (2003), CHOI has maintained his status as one of the top stars of Korean cinema, reaching the peak of his popularity last year, when he appeared as the lead of
Roaring Currents, the most successful Korean film of all time. His latest film
The Tiger, in which he appears as a hunter in Colonial Era Korea tracking the last tiger on the peninsula, was released this month.
Rumored to have been recommended by CHOI as the co-star of
Mayor of Seoul, KWAK is a mainstay of Korean cinema as a supporting actor, and recently appeared in
The Shameless as well as
The Magician. He received ample recognition for his supporting part in
The Attorney (2013) and will next be seen in
NA Hong-jin’s mystery thriller
Gokseong (working title).
Filming for Mayor of Seoul is expected to get underway in the first half of 2016.
