  • by KIM Hyun-min /  Dec 27, 2012
  • TOWER Brings in 430 Thousand Viewers, Just Shy of THE THIEVES

Korean director KIM Ji-hoon’s The Tower scored the second best opening level of admissions in the history of Korean cinema. The Korean Box Office Information System of the Korean Film Council announced that the film brought in 431,759 for the single day of Christmas, taking The Tower to the top of the daily box office chart. The film was shown on 596 screens across Korea and the total number of screenings was 2,959.

This is the second best opening admissions score since The Thieves opened with 436,628 on July 25, which broke the record set by director BONG Joon-ho’s The Host  which took 395,951 on its opening day.

The Tower’s score surpasses that of Haeundae (180 thousand) and the record set by Kim’s previous film, Sector 7, 230,000. The Tower leapt to the top of the box office chart after drawing 553,311, including those who saw the film during late Christmas Eve screenings.
