Actor Bae Doona will return in the Netflix original movie Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire. She previously starred the Netflix original series Sense8, directed by Lana Wachowski and Lily Wachowski—in 2015, a year before Netflix officially launched in South Korea. Since then, she has continued to work with Netflix on original content produced in South Korea, including Kingdom and The Silent Sea, as well as the second season and special episodes of Sense8.

In Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire, when a peaceful settlement on the edge of a distant moon finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling power, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, and a group of outsider warriors from several planets come together for a fateful battle. It's been directed by Zack Snyder, whose directorial credits include several DC Comics hero films such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017).

Bae Doona plays the swordswoman Nemesis, one of the eleven main characters who travel across the galaxy, while Sofia Boutella, best known in Korea for her roles in Kingsman: The Secret Agent (2015) and The Mummy (2017), plays the lead character Kora. The impressive ensemble cast includes Djimon Hounsou, Ed Skrein, Michiel Huisman, Ray Fisher, Charlie Hunnam, Anthony Hopkins, Staz Nair, Cleopatra Coleman and E. Duffy.

Bae said, “Its theme is simple and clear: fighting against oppression. Although it is set in space, it explores a universal human experience.”

Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire will be released on Friday, December 22, followed by Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver on Friday, April 19, 2024.
