Top actors, directors to serve on jury at Mise-en-scene fest

The fourth edition of the Mise-en-scene short film festival, scheduled to be held from June 23-29 in Seoul, has secured the participation of five leading actors and numerous big name directors to serve as jury members. The festival is divided into five sections, each of which focus on a particular genre: societal drama, melodrama, horror/fantasy, comedy, and action/thriller. A total of 63 short films will be screened, and will be available for the top prize in their particular section (5 million won, or approximately $5,000), plus the grand prize for the best film in the festival (an additional 5 million won). The jury for each section will be as follows: SOCIETAL DRAMA: actor CHOI Min-shik (Oldboy, Crying Fist), directors SONG Hye-sung (Rikidozan, Failan), JEONG Yun-cheol (Marathon), and NOH Dong-seok (My Generation). MELODRAMA: actress JANG Jin-young (Singles, Scent of Love), directors KIM Dae-seung (Blood Rain, Bungee Jumping of Their Own) and RYU Jang-ha (Springtime). COMEDY: actor IM Chang-jung (Sex is Zero, Cracked Eggs and Noodles), directors BONG Joon-ho (Memories of Murder) and IM Chan-sang (The President's Barber). HORROR/FANTASY: actress KIM Hye-soo (Three, Hypnotized, and the upcoming The Red Shoes), directors KIM Jee-woon (A Bittersweet Life, A Tale of Two Sisters) and YIM Phil-sung (Antarctic Journal). ACTION/THRILLER: actor LEE Byung-heon(A Bittersweet Life), directors JANG Jun-hwan (Save the Green Planet) and CHOI Dong-hoon (The Big Swindle). The festival is scheduled to be held at the CGV Yongsan in Seoul. Over its past three editions, the event has garnered the support of a variety of directors and actors in unearthing talented new filmmakers in the field of genre cinema.
