After the 26th Fantasia International Film Festival, the 2nd Invitation to an Overseas Film Festival

Director Park Syeyoung's film The Fifth Thoracic Vertebra has been invited to the 55th SITGES International Fantastic Film Festival. The SITGES is the largest film festival in Spain that is considered one of the world's top 3 fantastic films along with the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival and the Fantas Porto-Oporto International Film Festival in Portugal.

The Fifth Thoracic Vertebra will be screened at the Noves Visions section, which is for innovative and experimental films. Introducing the film, the SITGES festival commented, “In The Fifth Thoracic Vertebra, an abandoned mattress becomes the star: from its mold, a creature is born that wanders around Seoul, stealing the vertebrae of the people it encounters. On this unique mattress rests a film with a fascinating imaginary, about the horror and the beauty hidden in our daily lives.”

The Fifth Thoracic Vertebra is Director Park Syeyoung’s feature debut. The film won 3 awards, Korean Fantastic Best Director, Korean Fantastic Audience Award, and Nonghyup Distribution Award, at the 26th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival held last July. At the time, the jury said, "It's a very challenging and experimental film with an analog esthetic. Not only directing, but also filming and music, especially, art was superb, and the struggling mattress seemed like a self-portrait of modern people."

As a result, a total of 8 Korean films, including The Fifth Thoracic Vertebra, Hunt, The Roundup, A Man of Reason, and Emergency Declaration, will be screened at the 55th SITGES International Fantastic Film Festival. The festival will be held for 10 days from October 5.
