Jeonju IFF, a Special Presentation for Director Lee Changdong

The 23rd Jeonju International Film Festival showcases a special presentation for Director Lee Changdong, a master of Korean cinema, under the title ‘Lee Changdong: The Truth of the Invisible.’ Particularly, in the special presentation, you can see his new short film Heartbeat for the first time in the world, which is drawing attention. The film became a hot topic because WHO participated in its production. In addition, Lee Changdong: The Art of Irony, a new documentary that focuses on the world of Director Lee Changdong's films, will be screened at World Premiere. 

 

During the special presentation, a total of 8 films will be screened, including Director Lee Changdong's representative films such as Green Fish (1997), Peppermint Candy (1999), Oasis (2002), Secret Sunshine (2007), Poetry (2010), Burning (2018), and Lee Changdong: The Art of Irony, the documentary made by Alain Mazars. 

 

Director Lee Changdong especially participated in the digital remastering process himself for the films such as Green Fish and Oasis, and they will be screened for the first time at the Jeonju IFF. Expectations are high since the presentation is filled with the masterpieces of life to many audiences at home and abroad, Director Lee Changdong's new film we’ve been waiting for a long time, and a documentary on his film history. 

 

The film festival said it would like to look back on Korean contemporary film history through Director Lee Changdong's films and reported the publication of Films Never Stop Questioning, a commemorative book for the special exhibition. The book will include Lee Changdong’s 6 films, along with critic Kim Youngjin's Study of Writer on Lee Changdong, and the interview with Lee Changdong by Kim Hyeri, a reporter of Cine21. 

 

Programmer Moon Seok, who planned the special presentation says, “It is no exaggeration to say that Korean cinema has grown with Director Lee Changdong's films. We are also preparing for a master class as a related event, and a very special person will host the program as the moderator.” 

 

The 23rd Jeonju IFF will be held in the Jeonju Cinema Street area for 10 days from April 28 to May 7.
