JUNG Jin-young and CHO Jin-woong Get Specula Mention in Montreal
ME AND ME, the well-received directing debut of veteran actor JUNG Jin-young, has picked up a pair of prizes at the recent 24th edition of the Fantasia International Film Festival, the Montreal-based festival which this year took place online. The mystery-drama screened in the festival’s signature Cheval Noir competition, earning a Special Mention for the Best Actor prize, for CHO Jin-woong’s lead performance, as well as a Special Mention from the jury for the New Flesh Competition for debut films.
With screen credits going back almost 30 years, JUNG Jin-young is a veteran of the industry, comfortable across a variety of commercial films, such as the period drama smash King and the Clown (2005), as well as indie works, like ZHANG Lu’s Ode to the Goose (2018).
ME AND ME is JUNG’s debut both as a writer and a director. The film premiered in June this year in Korea, earning strong reviews but struggling at the box office, which was only just starting to warm up after a quiet spring due to COVID-19.
Believer (2018) star CHO Jin-woong plays a detective who investigates a fire in a country village home, which led to the death of a couple. One day he wakes up in the same house, but he has now turned into the man who died, a teacher at the local school.
A total of 15 Korean films, including features and shorts, screened at Fantasia this year.
