ANARCHIST FROM COLONY Leads Chunsa Film Art Awards Nominees

4 Nods a Piece for 1987, BATTLESHIP, JANE, OUTLAWS and TAXI DRIVER



The Chunsa Film Art Awards has announced the nominations for its 23rd edition, which will take place at the COEX Auditorium in Seoul on the evening of May 18. Leading this year’s nominations is LEE Joon-ik’s colonial era trial drama Anarchist from Colony (2017), which received nods in five categories.

Anarchist from Colony is one of six films nominated for the ceremony’s top award for Best Director. Also nominated are RYOO Seung-wan’s wartime escape drama The Battleship Island (2017) and the 1980s-set political dramas A Taxi Driver (2017) by JANG Hun and 1987: When the Day Comes (2017) by JANG Joon-hwan, all of which have four nominations, HWANG Dong-hyuk’s The Fortress (2017), with a total of three nods, and Hong Sangsoo’s indie drama The Day After (2017).

Also in the running with multiples awards are KANG Yun-sung’s crime drama THE OUTLAWS (2017) and the indie drama Jane (2017), both recognized in four categories, and BYUN Sung-hyun’s crime epic The Merciless (2017) and KIM Yong-hwa’s fantasy epic Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds (2017), each featured in three categories.

Among the acting nominees are SONG Kang-ho and SUL Kyung-gu, nominated for Best Actor for A Taxi Driver and The Merciless, respectively, who are each vying for a record four awards.

Last year’s top prize went to NA Hong-jin for THE WAILING (2016).
