Drama Promises to be Faithful to the Original Webtoon

Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds, the first movie exceeding over 10 million moviegoers in 2018, will also be made into a TV series. On December 28th, the production company Realies Pictures announced they would begin to prepare for a drama adaptation of the film. According to the production company, they plan to write a script this year and produce a drama for 2019. Details such as cast, production schedule and broadcast date have not yet been decided.

Fans of the original webtoon may have noticed that a key character, the lawyer JIN Gi-han was missing from the big screen adaptation. Instead a role was created for Soo-hong, Ja-hong’s sister. Unlike the movie, the drama plans to stay faithful to the original story. “The drama is planning to air not merely in Korea, but around the world. It is positive because the movie has been well-received,” the production company said.

With the Gods is a webtoon that centers around KIM Ja-hong, an ordinary office worker who stands trial seven times for 49 days in the underworld. The webtoon was written by JOO Ho-min and was later published as a graphic novel, so far selling over 450,000 copies. The original story consists of three significant parts published in different volumes: the underworld, the living world and the myth. KIM Yong-hwa’s movie is based on the underworld. The two parts of the fantasy epic were shot at the same time with the second part set to be released in August, this year. Along With the Gods: The Two Worlds has also been popular in other countries, including topping the box office for two consecutive weeks in Taiwan.
