Celebration of Korean Indie Cinema Returns April 12

The Wildflower Film Awards Korea will return for their 4th edition on April 12th. Run by Korean film critic Darcy Paquet, with fellow critics OH Dong-jin serving as organizing director, the event celebrates the achievement in Korea’s vibrant independent cinema sector and will once again take place at the Literature House Seoul on Namsan Mountain in the heart of Korean capital.

14 prizes are handed out each year in various categories for both documentary and narrative works that were produced for under KRW 1 billion (USD 890,000) and were released theatrically in Korea during the preceding calendar year. Several prominent independent works will be vying for attention at this year’s edition, which include the latest works by Hong SangsooZHANG Lu and more.

In addition to the annual ceremony, the event also organizes screenings of a select number of nominated films, often with cast and crew in attendance, ahead of the awards.

Last year’s Grand Prize went to PARK Jung-bum’s Alive, while the Best Director Prizes were won by SHIN Su-won from Madonna in the narrative section and E Il-ha of A Crybaby Boxing Club in the documentary section. JUNG Jae-young won Best Actor for Right Now, Wrong Then and LEE Jung-hyun picked up Best Actress for Alice In Earnestland.
