Showbox Scores Sales for GANG Dong-won Fantasy Drama

Top star GANG Dong-won’s new film VANISHING TIME: A BOY WHO RETURNED scored strong sales for Korean film distributor Showbox during the American Film Market in Santa Monica, California which took place earlier this month.

The commercial feature debut of UM Tae-hwa, who previously made the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA) feature title INGtoogi: The Battle of Internet Trolls (2013), VANISHING TIME tells the story of children who get lost in a secret place. When they finally escape, one among them is missing and when he is found a few days later, he has suddenly turned into an adult.

Among the outfits that purchased the fantasy film for distribution were IQiYi and Lemon Tree for China, Viva Communication in the Philippines, Associated Euromedia for Turkey and JBG Pictures, which secured rights for the film in English language markets such as North America, the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

GANG is coming off a string of hits, which include horror-thriller The Priests (2015) alongside KIM Yun-seok and prison thriller A Violent Prosecutor with HWANG Jung-min. VANISHING TIME was released in Korea on November 16th.

Also new on Showbox’s slate at AFM was crime thriller The Prison from director NA Hyun. The film features The Berlin File (2013) star HAN Suk-kyu and KIM Rae-won of Gangnam Blues (2015). The feature is due for release in the first quarter of 2017.
