KOFIC opens the “Korean Film Business Center” in Beijing

The Korean Film Council (KOFIC; KIM Eui-seok, Chairman) has opened the “Korean Film Business Center” in Beijing, China, a central location from which to support co-production and other collaboration with the Chinese film industry.
Located on the 10th floor of the Chao Wai SOHO Building in Beijing’s Chao Wai district, the Business Center neighbors the Korean Cultural Center and KOFIC’s Beijing offices.
The Korean Film Business Center will support industry personnel working on co-produced projects by providing office space and other amenities. It will also assist film projects in the development stage through mentoring programs, script translation, networking with local film experts and arranging business meetings.
The Korean Film Business Center in China features two types of residency programs, one short-term and one long-term.
Projects selected for the long-term program will receive three months of support, with six films selected in each term. Benefits that selected projects will receive include personal office space, business hotel lodging (single occupancy), mentoring, script translation services, script doctoring advice, participation in educational programs, local networking opportunities and administrative support.
Projects selected for the short-term program will receive a portion of shared office space, local networking opportunities and other consulting services.
This year, five projects were selected for long-term Business Center support at the beginning of last March, starting their term in early April.
These five production projects include the action/comedy film <Goldfinger> from Andy YOON (<Blind>), the fantasy project <Glasses> from OH Eun-sil (<The Duelist>), KIM Wan-sik’s (<GP506>) romantic comedy <Yoku Love>, IM Geon-jung’s romantic comedy <Love and Lingerie> and the family adventure film <Lost Boy> from NOH Ju-hyeong. (All titles listed are working titles only).
All of these projects will participate in the KOFIC-organized special event “Ko-production in Beijing” at this year’s Beijing International Film Festival, at which they will be introduced to local investors and have the opportunity to schedule further meetings. Following these meetings, KOFIC will host a “Night of Korean Cinema” at Beijing’s famed 798 Space, in the heart of the Dashanzi Arts District.

In an effort to further satisfy the demand for Korean-Chinese co-productions, KOFIC is currently concluding negotiations with Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to establish a “Korean-Chinese Film Co-production Agreement” in support of such projects. This agreement will establish Korean-Chinese film co-production and film industry collaboration as an official mission of the Korean government, which the KOFIC’s Korean Film Business Center in Beijing will be able to help realize.
