Indieground Announces Final Selection for the 2025 Independent Film Library

  • Record-breaking 996 entries received; 22 features and 66 shorts selected

  • Distribution support and curated programs expected to boost Korea’s indie film ecosystem

The Korean Film Council (KOFIC, Chairman Han Sang-jun) announced that Indieground, a platform established to improve the distribution and circulation environment of Korean independent and art films, has unveiled the final lineup for its 2025 Independent Film Library.

The Independent Film Library is one of Indieground’s key initiatives aimed at building a sustainable distribution system for Korean independent films and expanding their audience reach. This year’s call for submissions targeted films completed after January 2024 (based on premiere or release date) and drew a record number of 996 entries — 170 features and 826 shorts.

Following a review by the selection committee, 88 titles were chosen, including 22 feature-length and 66 short films. By genre, the lineup comprises 58 narrative films, 20 documentaries, 7 animations, and 3 experimental works.
The committee noted, “Through the unique and passionate creative worlds of these filmmakers, we encountered a wide range of perspectives on Korean society. It was a true pleasure to discover films with distinctive voices — even those that may have been overlooked by the traditional festival circuit.”

Each selected film will receive distribution support — KRW 4 million (approx. USD 3,000) for features and KRW 1.5 million (approx. USD 1,100) for shorts — along with various promotional opportunities. The program will also include curated screenings, community screenings, educational showings, and online exhibitions to broaden audience access.

The 2024 Library selections were previously released online via Indieground’s curation platform and screened in community spaces nationwide. Promotional activities included director interviews and collaborative showcases with partners such as CJ Cultural Foundation and the Value Bloom Film Festival, enabling broader audience engagement both online and offline.

The newly selected 2025 Independent Film Library films will be available to stream on Indieground’s online platform from 2026, continuing to connect creators and audiences through new ideas and formats.
