When Yasmin left Yemen during the civil war, she never expected her destination to be a volcanic island in South Korea. She was one of 549 Yemenis who sought for asylum through Jeju island’s no visa policy in summer 2018, and amid the rise of islamophobia and racism she decided to document her daily life in Jeju. However, the rejection of her asylum brought the production to halt, until Grace (Dir. KIM Sung-eun) found a film letter Yasmin had left for her in the camera. The letter, in a form of performance traversing through the places endangered to disappear, then gets delivered to the people who are trying to protect the island’s unique eco-system from over-development and militarization.
