Resigning from the army, Gang Byeong-cheol (Kim Seok-hun) is determined to work the land for his livelihood. Seon-ok (Kim Ui-hyang), who was always close to Byeong-cheol, has her bag snatched and while chasing after the young pickpocket, Chung-nam, she runs into Do-suk (Choe Eun-hui), who attended elementary school with Byeong-cheol. After suffering the hardships of life, Do-suk was captured by gang leader Hyeon-tae and became his lover. Chung-nam, along with Do-suk, who learns about Byeong-cheol's whereabouts, want to follow him down to the countryside but it is not easy to free themselves from Hyeon-tae's clutches. Do-suk and Chung-nam run away and hide from Hyeon-tae but eventually get caught and dragged back. Byeong-cheol, who goes to meet Do-suk, gets beaten up by Hyeon-tae's goons and is chased away. With Seon-ok's help, Byeong-cheol regains his health and returns to the countryside to begin to cultivate the fields with his friends. Sun-ok helps Byeong-cheol once a week when she goes down to the countryside and they eventually become engaged. Do-suk and Chung-nam risk everything and run away, looking up Byeong-cheol in the countryside. They stay together and help with the farming, and while they do so, Do-suk and Byeong-cheol get closer. Seon-ok finds out about their relationship and she and Byeong-cheol have several fights. As Byeong-cheol vacillates between the two women, Han Do-suk leaves, deciding that she is not pure enough to be his wife.(Reference : Korean Film Archive)
