Cho Jinwoong’s Debut Short as Director to Screen at North American Genre Festival

24 Korean films, including eight features and 16 shorts, are set to screen at next month’s 25th edition of the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, Canada. Among those will be the world premiere of Lee Wontae’s new thriller The Devil’s Deal, starring Cho Jinwoong and Lee Sungmin.
Cho Jinwoong, known for A Hard Day (2014) and Believer (2018) will also take part as a filmmaker with his directorial debut, the short film Ryuk-sa: A Teaser, a concept project for a potential feature, which will also have its world premiere in Canada. Last year, Cho received a Special Mention for the Cheval Noir Competition for his performance in Me and Me (2020).
The Devil’s Deal will take part in the festival’s signature Cheval Noir Competition, along with Hong Euijeong’s black comedy Voice of Silence (2020), starring Yoo Ahin and Yu Jaemyeong.
Other features screening at Fantasia will include Lee Yongju’s sci-fi drama SEOBOK, Kwon Ohseung’s horror-thriller Midnight, Kim Jongkwan’s romantic drama Josée (2020), Choi Jinyoung’s indie drama The Slug (2020), Jero Yun’s boxing drama Fighter (2020) and Park Jungbae’s heist thriller Collectors (2020).
Other Korean shorts invited to Fantasia include the animations Be Big, Beyond the Line, Carnivorous Bean Sprout, Good for You, The Green Between, Huh, Megalomania, Ménage à Trois: Flour, Eggs And Sugar, Misery Loves Company, A Sip of Water and Upcycling. Live action shorts include Digital Video Editing with Adobe Premiere Pro: The Real-World Guide to Set Up and Workflow, Noses on the Run, Stock and Urban Myths: Tooth Worms.
