SPIDER-MAN Brushes Aside THE POLICEMAN’S LINEAGE in 4th Straight Weekend Win

After spending a few weeks on the backburner, the local business made a recovery this past weekend but was still playing second fiddle with a 32% share of the market as a dominant foreign tentpole kept its hold on the top of the charts. Overall admissions dipped 20% down to 870,000 over the frame.

Topping the charts for the fourth straight weekend was the Marvel smash Spider-Man: No Way Home which finally started to lose steam as its weekend take slowed 57% to 300,000 sales (USD 2.65 million). Far and away the biggest hit of the pandemic to date, the film has topped 6.6 million viewers (USD 55.38 million).

Entering the charts in a close second was the new local crime drama The Policeman’s Lineage, starring Cho Jinwoong and Choi Wooshik. The film kicked off with 260,000 entries (USD 2.19 million) over the weekend with a total of 374,000 seats (USD 3.06 million) filled over its first five days in theaters.

Debuting down in third place was the animated sequel Sing 2 with 204,000 spectators (USD 1.6 million) counted over the weekend. The Universal Pictures film has welcomed 282,000 viewers (USD 2.16 million) since its Wednesday launch.

Dipping two spots and 65% was the action prequel The King’s Man. The film added 72,000 sales (USD 635,000) over the weekend, pushing its total to 921,000 admissions (USD 7.68 million).

Closing out the top five after slipping two ranks and crashing a hefty 91% was the local day and date streaming and theatrical romantic drama A YEAR-END MEDLEY. With an additional 11,000 viewers (USD 91,000), the film has now reached 226,000 entries (USD 1.77 million).

Though Spider-Man is nearing the end of its run, the business should get a boost this weekend with three major titles entering theaters. Leading the reservations chart as of Monday morning was Steven Spielberg’s musical update West Side Story, while Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci and the local action-thriller Special Delivery with Park Sodam are also hoping to put a dent in this coming weekend’s numbers.
