The Korean Film Council Hosted ‘K-Movie Night JEONJU 2022’ at Endemic Film Festival Successfully

At 8 p.m. on April 29, the Jeonju Daesaseup Festival Center was filled with more than 200 cineastes who visited the ‘K-Movie Night JEONJU 2022’ hosted by the Korean Film Council (KOFIC, Chairperson Park Kiyong). The event was designed to form a close network between overseas cineastes and Korean cineastes who visited the 23rd Jeonju International Film Festival and introduce Korean films revealed in the festival in a more friendly mood.

Many cineastes participated in ‘K-Movie Night JEONJU 2022,’ including Director Lee Changdong, the protagonist of the Special Presentation, Director Shin Suwon, Actor Park Haseon, Actor Gong Seungyeon, Director Lee Myungse, Actor Jung Jinyoung, Actor Kwon Haehyo, and a lot of overseas film officials including Programmer Roberto Cueto, a member of the San Sebastian Festival Selection Committee.

Chairperson Park Kiyong of the KOFIC opened ‘K-Movie Night JEONJU 2022,’ saying, I sincerely thank Kim Seungsoo, Director of the Organizing Committee, and Lee Joondong, Chairman of the Jeonju IFF, for holding the normal film festival for the first time in 3 years. Thanks to them, we’re holding this K-Movie Night now. Special programmer & Director Yeon Sangho and Jury & Actor Gong Seungyeon also welcomed the participants with congratulatory videos. While playing the videos introducing Korean films invited to the 23rd Jeonju IFF, directors in the Korean Features and Shorts Competitions took the stage to greet, and enthusiastic applause erupted. It was crowded under the stage with the cineastes who approached the directors to congratulate and cheer them on.

KOFIC has hosted the ‘Korean Film Night’ event to promote Korean films and culture at major international film festivals at home and abroad. Especially, the ‘K-Movie Night JEONJU 2022’ was held in the outdoor yard of the Jeonju Daesaseup Festival Center located in Jeonju Hanok Village, adding to the atmosphere of traditional Korean culture. In addition, a variety of Korean cuisines such as Jeonju's traditional liquor ‘Moju,’ makgeolli, kimchi pancakes, and hotteok were served, and they received good responses from overseas cineastes.

The ‘K-Movie Night JEONJU 2022’ was the first official event held by KOFIC since the 2020 COVID-19 Pandemic. We could reaffirm the importance of the direct network while watching Korean and foreign cineastes mingled together in person for the first time in a long time. They greeted and enjoyed the party together in a free atmosphere even after the official program was over. Starting with the ‘K-Movie Night JEONJU 2022,’ KOFIC will resume the ‘Korean Film Night’ event in the international film festivals to establish a venue for the global network of the film industry and focus on promoting Korean films.
