Hong Yeji to Debut in Mo Hongjin’s GIRL

Jeon Somin, Kim Jiyoung and Shin Eunjung Join New Social Issues Drama

Debut actress Hong Yeji has been tapped to lead Girl (translated title), the new film by director Mo Hongjin. Also, cast in the project are veteran actresses Jeon Somin, Kim Jiyoung and Shin Eunjung

 

Written by Mo and Yoo Dayoung, Girl will feature Hong as the 19-year-old Yoonyoung, who finds herself imprisoned after becoming involved in an unexpected incident.

 

Hong was plucked from auditions for what will be her first-ever screen role. She previously appeared in the reality competition series Produce 48. Recent Korean rookie actresses to have landed leading roles from auditions include Kim Taeri (The Handmaiden, 2016), Jun Jongseo (Burning, 2018) and Kim Dami (The Witch: Part 1. Subversion, 2018).

 

Jeon Somin, active since the K-horror Cinderella (2006), was recently seen in LOVE, AGAIN (2019) and THE NAME (2020). Kim Jiyoung, who swept the local best-supporting actress awards for Forever the Moment (2008), recently appeared in the box office smashes Extreme Job (2019) and EXIT (2019). Last seen in the tvN drama Navillera, Shin Eunjung’s film credits include Possessed (2009) and Canola (2016).

 

Director Mo debuted as a filmmaker with the 2015 thriller Missing You with Shim Eunkyoung. He also wrote our produced the 2007 thriller Our Town and was an executive producer for the period siege epic The Great Battle (2018), for which he came up with the original idea.

 

Girl, which is expected to tackle a variety of social issues, entered production on May 25.
