Busan International Film Festival Appoints HUH Moon-young as Festival Director

OH Seok-geun to Take Over at Asian Contents & Film Market

At the close of its annual boarding meeting this year on March 25, the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) announced two major new appointments. Respected critic and programer HUH Moon-young has taken over as the new festival director, while OH Seok-geun, a former chairperson of the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), has been tapped as co-director of the Asian Contents & Film Market.

HUH Moon-young most recently served as the program director of the Busan Cinema Center. He is also a renowned film critic who worked at Cine 21 among other publications before assuming the job of Korean Cinema Programmer at BIFF in 2002, a post he held for five years. HUH takes over from Jay JEON, one of the original founders of BIFF who vacated the festival director position a few months ago.

OH Seok-geun served as KOFIC chairperson until earlier this year and prior to that was the head of the Busan Film Commission and Asia Film Commissions Network. Before those postings, OH made his name as the director of As You Please (1991), The 101st Proposition (1993) and Love Is a Crazy Thing (2005). The previous co-director of the market was Memories of Murder (2003) producer TCHA Sung-jai.

The 26th edition of BIFF is scheduled to take place this year from October 6 to 15, while the Asian Contents & Film Market will be held from October 11 to 14.
