THE MAN STANDING NEXT Leads Blue Dragon Film Awards with 11 Nominations

41st Edition of Prestigious Awards to Take Place on December 10


The Blue Dragon Film Awards revealed the nominations for this year’s 41st edition, which is scheduled to take place on December 10. WOO Min-ho’s period political drama The Man Standing Next leads all contenders with 11 nominations, including Best Film, Director, Screenplay, Actor (LEE Byung-hun) and two nods for Best Supporting Actor (LEE Sung-min and LEE Hee-jun).

The other nominees for Best Film are LIM Dae-hyung’s drama Moonlit Winter (2019), which closed the Busan International Film Festival last year, KIM Do-young’s hit women’s drama KIM JI-YOUNG, BORN 1982 (2019), YUN Dan-bi’s acclaimed indie debut Moving On (2019) and HONG Eui-jeong’s thriller Voice of Silence, also a debut.

Though it wasn’t nominated for Best Film, HONG Won-chan’s DELIVER US FROM EVIL received nine nominations, including two Best Actor nods for its leads HWANG Jung-min and LEE Jung-jae, as well as nominations in every technical category.

Indie drama Moonlit Winter (2019) received seven nominations, including Best Director, Screenplay, Actress (KIM Hee-ae) and Supporting Actress (KIM So-hye). KIM JI-YOUNG, BORN 1982 (2019) was recognized in six categories, including Best Actress (JUNG Yu-mi), Supporting Actress (KIM Mi-kyeong) and Screenplay.

Receiving five nominations apiece were YEON Sang-ho’s zombie sequel hit Peninsula, YANG Woo-suk’s geopolitics action-drama sequel Steel Rain2: Summit, and LEE Jong-pil’s women’s drama SAMJIN COMPANY ENGLISH CLASS.

YOO Ah-in received a Best Actor nomination for Voice of Silence, which received four nominations. Getting three nominations each were Moving On, KIM Yong-hun’s thriller BEASTS CLAWING AT STRAWS and PARK Sang-hyun’s legal drama Innocence.
