BEAUTIFUL FOOD with PARK Gyu-ri Premieres in Kyoto

NOTEBOOK FROM MY MOTHER also Invited to Japanese Fest

A pair of Korean films were invited to the Kyoto International Art and Film Festival this month. The festival featured the world premiere of CHO Sung-kyu’s Beautiful Food, featuring Kara member PARK Gyu-ri, as well as the melodrama Notebook from My Mother.

Lead actress PARK Gyu-ri attended the festivities in Kyoto along with her co-star LIM Won-hee and director CHO Sung-kyu. Beautiful Food is the third film from the prolific CHO this year, who bowed Deep in the Korean Fantastic Features competition at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan) and Passing Summer, which also features LIM, in the Korean Cinema Today-Panorama lineup of the Busan International Film Festival earlier this month.

Beautiful Food stars PARK as a woman who struggles to work on a video project meant to showcase the cuisine of the Gangneung area ahead of the launch of the nearby Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games.

PARK has featured in several of CHO’s earlier works, including Two Rooms, Two Nights (2016) and How to Break up with My Cat (2016). Prior to her film work, PARK was known as a member of the Kpop band Kara and for her extensive TV work.

Featuring LEE Jong-hyuk and LEE Ju-sil, Notebook from My Mother debuted at the Busan International Film Festival last year. It is the latest work from How To Steal A Dog (2014) director KIM Sung-ho.

The 2018 Kyoto International Art and Film Festival took place from October 11 to 14.
