JEON Do-yeon and JUNG Woo-sung Dig in to BEASTS THAT CLING TO THE STRAW

Korean Stars Kick off Filming for Japanese Novel Adaptation



Korean stars are lining up for an adaptation of SONE Keisuke’s novel Beasts that Cling to the Straw. JEON Do-yeon, JUNG Woo-sung, BAE Sung-woo, YOUN Yuh-jung and more are featuring in this debut film by director KIM Yong-hoon, which kicked off production on August 30.

The mystery-thriller follows several different characters experiencing difficult circumstances as a result of their choices.

One of the top actresses in the Korean film business, JEON hasn’t been seen on the big screen since LEE Yoon-ki’s A Man and a Woman in 2016. She is best known for her roles on several works that have featured at the Cannes Film Festival, including LEE Chang-dong’s Secret Sunshine (2007), which earned her the Best Actress prize on the Croisette in 2007, and IM Sang-soo’s The Housemaid (2010). She recently shot the drama Birthday (working title) with SUL Kyung-gu.

JUNG has been busy with several major projects of late, including last December’s North Korean action drama Steel Rain (2017) and this summer’s action sci-fi noir ILLANG : THE WOLF BRIGADE by KIM Jee-woon. He’s also currently shooting the legal thriller Witness (working title) alongside KIM Hyang-gi.

BAE Sung-woo, one of Korea’s top character actors, is currently on screens in the period siege epic The Great Battle. YOUN Yuh-jung, a legend of the industry, has enthralled audiences since appearing in KIM Ki-young’s Woman of Fire (1971). She recently featured in the Berlinale-invited The Bacchus Lady (2016). 

Director KIM previously participated in the directing department of JANG Jin’s Righteous Ties (2006). Beasts That Cling to the Straw is being financed by Megabox Plus M which will release the film at some point next year.
