The Jeonju International Film Festival (JIFF) has revealed this year’s lineup of Jeonju Cinema Projects, the feature length projects commissioned by JIFF which have become the festival’s signature. This year’s lineup features four titles - MIN Hwan-ki’s The Man with High Hopes and IM Heung-soon’s HUG from Korea, and Ted FENDT’s Outside Noise and Éric BAUDELAIRE’s A Flower In the Mouth from overseas.

From MIN Hwan-ki, who received a Jury Special Mention for his film Sogyumo Acacia Band’s Story in the Korean Competition of JIFF in 2009, The Man with High Hopes is a documentary about the late Korean politician ROH Hoe-chan, who devoted his life to social justice. The film was co-produced by Myung Films and the Roh Hoe-chan Foundation.

HUG is the latest film by director IM Heung-soon, known for the documentary Factory Complex (2014), which won Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale, as well as Ryeohaeng (2016) and Things That Do Us Part (2019). This experimental film begins with someone waking up from a dream upon hearing that COVID-19 has been overcome.

Outside Noise is about a woman who suffers from insomnia and anxiety issues, who runs into unexpected situations on her way home. It is the fourth film by Ted FENDT, who is known for Short Stay and Classical Period.

From visual artist and filmmaker Éric BAUDELAIRE, A Flower In the Mouth is a part observational documentary and part fiction film that begins in a Dutch flower market and turns into an adaptation of Luigi PIRANDELLO’s play ‘The Man with the Flower in His Mouth’.

This year’s Jeonju International Film Festival will take place from April 29 to May 5.
