  • CAA Adds THE VILLAINESS Director to its Talent Roster

JUNG Byung-gil, director of the action noir The Villainess (2017), has signed with Hollywood agency CAA (Creative Artists Agency). CAA is one of the three main agencies in America, along with WME and UTA and has represented several Korean luminaries in the past, such as PARASITE (2019) director BONG Joon-ho (now with WME) and GI Joe star LEE Byung-hun (now at UTA).

Formerly an aspiring stuntman, JUNG debuted as a filmmaker with the documentary Action Boys (2008), which follows the exploits of a new batch of freshmen at the renowned stunt academy Seoul Action School. He then debuted as a commercial filmmaker with the hit revenge drama Confession of Murder (2012), which was recently remade in Japan.

He went on to make the acclaimed KIM Ok-vin action vehicle The Villainess, which premiered in the Midnight Screenings section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2017. That film is also getting the remake treatment, as an English-language Amazon TV series that was announced in January 2019. JUNG will reportedly direct the pilot episode of the series, which is being produced by Skybound Entertainment, the company behind the smash hit series The Walking Dead

JUNG most recently signed on as the director of the Gerald BUTLER action vehicle Afterburn, based on a graphic novel of the same name, which would be his Hollywood filmmaking debut.
