  • PARK Hae-soo Mulls Role Opposite SUL Kyung-gu in YACHA
  • by Pierce Conran /  Aug 01, 2019
  • New Spy Thriller from Director of THE PRISON

Rising star PARK Hae-soo is considering joining veteran star SUL Kyung-gu in the upcoming thriller Yacha (Korean title), according to his agency BH Entertainemnt. The film will mark the sophomore feature of director NA Hyun.

The story concerns a covert Korean spy outfit operating in the town of Shenyang in China and a prosecutor demoted to the group after investigating major corporate leaders during his search for a missing North Korean official. PARK is eyeing the role of the prosecutor. PARK appeared in a supporting role in the 2016 hit thriller Master and will be on screens next month in the crime film Quantum Physics (translated title), as well as the youth-oriented sci-fi thriller Hunting Time (working title) in the near future.

SUL is set to play Kang-in, the leader of a covert ops team codenamed ‘Yacha’. The star, known for modern Korean classics such as LEE Chang-dong’s A Peppermint Candy (2000) and Oasis (2002), was most recently seen opposite JEON Do-yeon in the drama Birthday. He also earned the Best Actor prize at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival for his role in the Berlinale-premiered thriller Idol.

Yacha is the new film by NA Hyun, the director of The Prison, the jail-set thriller with HAN Suk-kyu and KIM Rae-won that attracted close to three million viewers in 2017. NA also wrote the dramatization of this year’s comedy-drama Inseparable Bros, as well as screenplays for My Way (2011), Leafie, a Hen into the Wild (2011) and South Bound (2013).

The spy thriller is expected to go before cameras at some point before the end of the year.
