GO-GO SISTERS Gives CJ Entertainment 3 Hits in Local Top 5
CJ Entertainment’s Vietnamese remake of their 2011 hit
Sunny, titled
Go-Go Sisters, has become the fifth best-selling film in Vietnamese box office history after being released on March 9. To date, the film has earned VND 85.17 billion (USD 3.74 million) in theaters.
Over the last few years,
CJ Entertainment has been very active with local Vietnamese productions. Their comedy
Let Hoi Decide became the best-selling film of all time in the market after being released at the end of 2014, and they broke the record again a year later with
Sweet 20, the Vietnamese version of
Miss Granny (2014).
Since then two new local films have surpassed them on the all-time chart, but
CJ remains a powerhouse in Vietnam with three of the five best selling films of all time.
CJ also has the ninth best-selling Vietnamese film of all time with last year’s drama hit
The Girl from Yesterday. All told,
CJ has so far released nine locally produced films in the Vietnamese market.
Directed by
KANG Hyoung-chul,
Sunny focuses on seven high school girls who meet again as adults. The comedy-drama hit welcomed 7.36 million viewers (USD 50.06 million) in Korea when it was released in the spring of 2011.
A Japanese remake of
Sunny is scheduled for release on August 31 this year while development of a US version is currently underway.
