J&C Media Group to Release Simon West’s Tidal Wave Action Film

GANG Dong-won’s upcoming Hollywood debut Tsunami LA has secured a Korean distributor ahead of its production start. J&C Media Group will give the film a simultaneous release in Korea at some point in 2019.

Directed by Simon West, best known for action blockbusters such as the Nicolas Cage production Con Air (1997), Tsunami LA is gearing up for production in both the United Kingdom and Mexico. GANG is expected to join filming in April, shortly after wrapping KIM Jee-woon’s upcoming sci-fi action blockbuster Inrang (Korean title), in which he plays the title character.

The story follows a major tidal wave that hits Los Angeles on the California coast. The budget is set at around USD 55 million and the project is being financed by Hannibal Classics and Foresight Unlimited, who will also be handling international sales.

GANG has been on a strong run of hits lately, which have included the exorcism thriller The Priests (2015), the prison drama A Violent Prosecutor (2016), the financial thriller Master (2016) and the political drama 1987: When the Day Comes (2017). He most recently headlined the Lunar New Year thriller Golden Slumber in February. Tsunami LA will be GANG’s first English-language project.

J&C Media Group had previously acquired the rights for international titles such as Mechanic: Resurrection (2016), John Wick: Chapter Two (2017) and The Hitman’s Bodyguard (2017).
