BTS Concert Film Scores Event Film Global Record

BURN THE STAGE: THE MOVIE Earns USD 14 Million in Worldwide Debut


In addition to conquering the charts worldwide, the sensationally popular Korean pop group BTS has put their mark on the film industry by setting a new event film global opening record following the international debut of their concert film. According to distributor Trafalgar Releasing, Burn the Stage: The Movie, which documents the band’s 2017 Wings Tour, eclipsed the record set by boy band One Direction’s One Direction: Where We Are film by recording 1.2 million admissions (USD 14 million) around the world.

The film bowed in 2,650 theaters in 79 different territories, starting on November 15, prior to which over a million tickets had been reserved in advance. The event picture succeeded in cracking the top 10 of the global box office with USD 3.6 million recorded in sales. In the UK the film ranked sixth with an USD 830,000 take. Other major territories for it were the Philippines, where it scored over 100,000 admissions, and Germany and Austria, where it exceeded USD 800,000 in sales. In Korea, the film debuted in fourth place and after 11 days in theaters has generated USD 2.24 million in revenue.

Johnny CARR, alternative content manager for Vue Cinemas, related that “The feedback from audiences has been incredible, with many BTS fans booking to see an additional encore performance.”
