Showbox Joins Co-production of THE WIDOW and FOREVER HOLIDAY IN BALI

Korean film distributor and producer Showbox is extending its business to overseas markets.
The company has announced plans to enter Hollywood by co-producing Hollywood thriller The Widow. It will also join in co-producing the Indonesian romantic comedy Forever Holiday in Bali and is set on taking over the markets in Southeast Asia.

On October 25th Showbox confirmed its plans for co-production and investment in The Widow with Hollywood-based Sidney Kimmel Entertainment and Hong Kong-based film finance company Ivanhoe Pictures. The thriller revolves around Frances, a young woman living in New York who has an encounter with a mysterious widow named Greta who gradually reveals her malicious intentions. Chloe Moretz will play Frances while Isabelle Huppert will take on the role of Greta. Neil Jordan, winner of the Academy Award for best original screenplay for The Crying Game, is directing the film. This co-production and investment is a step beyond the partnership began with Ivanhoe Pictures in 2015, and Showbox aims to gain footing as a global content investment company in Hollywood.

Showbox is also co-producing Forever Holiday in Bali with an Indonesian partner. The romantic comedy depicts a K-pop star who meets an Indonesian college girl and escapes from Bali with her help. It stars K-pop group MBLAQ’s Thunder (Cheon Dung) who is popular locally with Indonesian fans.
