VETERAN 2 Also in the Works at R & K Filmmaker

On the eve of the debut of his latest film The Battleship Island, one of the year’s biggest Korean releases, RYOO Seung-wan is said to be working on a sequel for his 2013 North Korea-themed spy thriller The Berlin File. Though no start date has been fixed, he is currently writing with Anarchist from Colony scribe HWANG Seong-gu.

According to producer KANG Hae-jung, the script, which will have a lighter tone than the original, has been in the works for two years and has gone through several iterations due to the constantly changing political climate in North Korea. The production has also been in touch with star HA Jung-woo and will schedule the film once scripting is complete.

RYOO and KANG, through their production company Filmmaker R & K, have also been working on the follow-up to their 2015 smash Veteran for the last two years. Development on that project is still ongoing as they are trying to create a stronger villain. In interviews in the past, RYOO has mentioned that he intends to follow The Battleship Island with The Berlin File 2 and Veteran 2.

The Battleship Island, which features RYOO’s Veteran star HWANG Jung-min in the lead, alongside SONG Joong-ki, SO Ji-sub and LEE Jung-hyun, is set to be released July 26th.
