Chinese Alibaba Pictures Signed to Invest in a KIM Soo-hyun Featuring Film REAL

Shooting Will Start towards the End of This Year

KIM Soo-hyun is now working with Alibaba, a Chinese media tycoon.

KIM’s agency keyeast announced that they have recently signed a contract with Alibaba Pictures, an affiliate to the Alibaba Group, for Chinese investment and distribution on Real (to be produced by Real Culture Industry Ltd.) featuring KIM.

Real is a noir action thriller, depicting the adventures of a trouble shooter working in the dark shadow of a splendid metropolis, when he encounters a documentary writer. The pre-production and casting are complete, and shooting will start towards the end of this year.

Director LEE Jeong-sub has also written the script. He has been an active player in Korean cinema, who wrote CHOO Chang-min’s Lost In Love and horror movie Arang, and also worked for The Perfect Couple, Rainbow Eyes and Romantic Island in various parts including script, planning, producing and so on.

The contract on Real was signed during the 20th edition of Busan International Film Festival (BIFF)which closed on the 10th of this month. ZHANG Qiang, the president of Alibaba Pictures, is known to have stayed during the film festival to meet the people in charge of the film.

Keyeast explained that “This contract reflects the expectation on KIM who has been greatly loved as a Korean Wave star in many parts of the world including China, with My Love From Another Star." KIM has received a grand prix at 2015 Korea Drama Awards held on Oct 9th, proving the undying love of his fans.

Alibaba Pictures is an affiliate of Alibaba, the biggest Chinese online commerce company, and has shown a successful performance as the Chinese partner of Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation. This film was released in mid-August in China and has earned a box office sales of 0.7 billion CNY, and has made the name of this co-producer, Alibaba Pictures, be known to the world. Alibaba Pictures has also signed a license contract with the US Universal Pictures.

Alibaba Pictures has a massive presence in China and is expanding beyond Asia, as far as Hollywood. President ZHANG has announced during the BIFF that they are intending to produce a blockbuster which can convince the viewers of the entire world, with great human resources of China, Korea and Japan and with outstanding copyrights.
