THE HUNTRESSES also Sells in Berlin

Distributor Showbox had a busy week at the European Film Market (EFM) this year, actively selling five titles in Germany. Their two current titles, last December’s spy thriller The Suspect and the recent period action comedy The Huntresses, clinched a slew of sales during EFM, which runs concurrently with the Berlin International Film Festival.

Following a solid domestic performance, during which it accrued over 4.1 million admissions, WON Shin-yun’s espionage action The Suspect sold to territories in Asia and Europe. Starring popular actor GONG Yoo, the film was bought by Splendid Film for German-speaking Europe, Twin in Japan, Hong Kong’s Deltamac HK, Av-Jet in Taiwan and Krisco Media, which will handle the film for India and the Middle East. WON’s film previously sold to Well Go USA for the North American market, where the film screened theatrically last month.

The Huntresses, which stars HA Ji-won, KANG Ye-won and GAIN as bounty hunters in Joseon era Korea, was not a hit in Korea, with less than half a million admissions to date, but that didn’t stop it from becoming popular with Asian buyers. The action comedy was also bought by Twin, Av-Jet and Krisco Media, in addition to Pt Prima in Indonesia, Vietnam’s Soundspace International and Taewang for Mongolia.

Showbox also presented their upcoming titles A Hard Day, Kundo: The Age of the Rampant and The Divine Move at EFM.
