Liz Shackleton at Screen Daily has reported that new projects from heavyweight Korean directors IM Sang-soo and HUR Jin-ho will be produced by Korea’s Daisy/Cinergy, a producer-distributor founded in 2005. Both directors were invitees to the recent 2012 Cannes Film Festival.

Im’s film THE TASTE OF MONEY (2012) screened in Cannes’ main competition. The new project, tentatively titled EO-EUL-WOO-DONG, will be produced and written by Im (A GOOD LAWYER’S WIFE, 2003; THE HOUSEMAID, 2010) but directed by new talent. The film concerns the real-life story of a 16th century noblewoman put to death for her sexual and political manipulations. Im’s production company Film Ppamal will collaborate with Daisy on the project.

The latest from Hur (CHRISTMAS IN AUGUST, 1998; ONE FINE SPRING DAY, 2001), whose Chinese-Singapore co-production DANGEROUS LIAISONS (2012) was invited to screen at the non-competition Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes this year, is titled THE LAST PRINCESS. The period piece mixes fiction and history while following Korean Princess Dukhae, who is forced to move to Japan and marry Japanese royalty. MOON Geun-young (LOVE ME NOT, 2006) will star and KIM Hyun-jeong and LEE Han-eol will write the script. Filming should begin this year.

Daisy & Cinergy recently began to conduct international sales this year with Im’s THE TASTE OF MONEY as well as two other titles.
