With the Chuseok holidays upon us, that means it’s time for some family-friendly holiday fare, and Lotte Entertainment is preparing to welcome the holiday crowds with their new heart-warming drama Miracle: Letters to the President. In the director’s chair is Lee Janghoon, who tugged at audiences’ heartstrings before, when he debuted in 2018 with the fantasy romance Be With You starring Son Yejin and So Jisub, another Lotte production.
Based on a real event that took place in 1988, the film stars Park Jungmin (Keys to the Heart, 2018) as Joonkyung, a high school math prodigy living in a small village in North Gyeongsang Province. Joonkyung has been petitioning the president with countless emails to build a train station on the track that runs through the village, which no avail. He learns of competition to earn a special President’s Award that comes with a meeting with the head of state. Girls’ Generation and EXIT (2019) star Lim Yoona portrays Rahee, the friend who believes in him, and Lee Sookyung of The Odd Family: Zombie on Sale (2019) plays his younger sister. Actor Lee Sungmin (The Man Standing Next, 2020) also appears as Joonkyung’s father, the conductor of the train that passes through the station-less village, who shares his son’s dream. Together they strive to build Korea’s first private railway station.
