Seojoon (Byun Yohan) is a former detective who is now in charge of a field operation team on a construction site in Busan. He falls victim to a voice phishing scam, which also claims victims among his family and friends. Frustrated that nothing can be done about it through official channels, he decides to take matters into his own hands.

Relying on his investigative skills, he looks into the criminal group behind the scam plot himself. He tracks the source of the calls all the way to a call center operating in China. Once there, he is shocked to see how significant the operation is, which is masterminded by Pro Kwak (Kim Muyeol). Though he’s reached the source of the problem, Seojoon soon finds out that toppling this enterprise is far easier said than done.

Originally known by the title Voice, which remains the local title for the film, On the Line is the latest film from trailblazing art-horror director siblings Kim Gok and Kim Sun. The Kim Brothers are known for experimental works such as Anti Gas Skin (2010), as well as the commercial horror White : The Melody of the Curse (2011), and several segments in the Horror Stories anthology series.

Following his acclaimed role in Lee Joonik’s The Book of Fish, Byun Yohan serves as the lead here, while Kim Muyeol, seen last year in Honest Candidate and Intruder, appears as his nemesis.
