CHUN Woo-hee and KANG Ha-neul join forces in the romantic drama Waiting for Rain, the second major melodrama of the year, following the Lunar New Year release New Year Blues.
KANG plays Young-ho, a young man lacking any clear goal who has been studying for years to get into university. One day he composes a letter to his childhood friend So-yeon and sends it to her, but since she is sick, it’s actually her sister So-hee (CHUN Woo-hee) who receives it. So-hee, pretending to be So-yeon, answers him and the two strike up a correspondence without meeting face to face. In addition to taking care of her sister, So-hee also runs a secondhand bookstore with her mother.
Waiting for Rain is the third film from director CHO Jin-mo, who debuted with the RYOO Seung-bum comedy Suspicious Customers in 2011 and later made the Chinese-Korean co-produced drama Making Family (2016).
CHUN, who is known for Han Gong-ju (2013) and The Wailing (2016), is no stranger to melodramas, having teamed up with KIM Nam-gil in LEE Yoon-ki’s 2017 film One Day. The film will mark KANG’s first release film since he returned from his military service. His famous roles include DONGJU: The Portrait of a Poet (2016) and Midnight Runners (2017).
