Tae-in (YOO Ah-in) and Chang-bok (YU Jae-myeong) sell eggs out of a small truck in town, but their real job takes place in out-of-the-way warehouses, cleaning up the traces of violent crimes perpetrated by the countryside thugs who employ them. A normal day involves donning overalls and rubber gloves, cutting down a body onto a plastic tarp, wrapping it up and burying it out in the forest. On a not-so-normal day, Chang-bok gets an opportunity to make a little extra cash on the side, by helping out with a kidnapping. They are handed Cho-hee (MOON Seung-a), the daughter of a wealthy man, but the real target was supposed to be his son. Chang-bok makes Tae-in take Cho-hee to his hovel to stay with him and his younger sister in the countryside, while the kidnapping plot drags on. The cool-headed Cho-hee slowly befriends the mute Tae-in and his sister, but the situation around them keeps getting more complicated.
Voice of Silence, a black comedy-infused crime drama that focuses on the lives of the people who do the grunt work in the sidelines of most crime thrillers, is the debut feature of director HONG Eui-jeong. Her script for the film was selected for Venice Biennale College-Cinema and was also shortlisted for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab. After toppling the charts earlier this year in #ALIVE, YOO Ah-in returns to screen, taking on a new challenge as the mute Tae-in. The film was produced by Lewis KIM, who is known for Okja (2017) and ILLANG : THE WOLF BRIGADE (2018).
