Come and See Korean Films in Cannes!

Korean Films Invited to the 70th Cannes Film Festival
The 70th edition of Cannes Film Festival kicks off on May 17th. A total of five films from Korea have been chosen for the Cannes’ official selection as of April 21st although some sections remain unreleased yet.
Two local movies were invited to the Competition section which receives the most attention: BONG Joon-ho’s Okja and Hong sangsoo’s The Day After. Okja, which was supported by online streaming giant Netflix, stars Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano and Korean child actress AHN Seo-hyun. Particularly, Hong Sangsoo has two films invited to the festival. Claire’s Camera will get a Special Screenings besides The Day After. Director Hong marks his fourth time in Competition, following Woman Is The Future Of Man (2004), Tale of Cinema (2005) and In Another Country (2012).
The Midnight Screenings section will show two Korean films, The Merciless and The Villainess. Director BYUN Sung-hyun’s The Merciless is about two men in prison while helmer JUNG Byung-gil’s The Villainess portrays a woman who is grown up as a killer.
Although the Cannes Film Festival, one of the three biggest film festivals in the world, features as many titles as sands on the beach, the five Korean films are worth to watch.
