With a weary heart, PARK Yong-woo decides to embark on a journey to "the forest." Located on Yakushima Island in southern Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, the UNESCO World Heritage site is home to the renowned forest that is said to have inspired the MIYAZAKI Hayao animated film Princess Mononoke (1997). For his ten-day journey, PARK finds the young and beautiful TAGAKI Rina to keep him company. As the two wanderers trade stories, they decide to search for the reportedly 7200-year-old Jōmon Sugi, a cryptomeria tree, and with each step they become more curious about the existence of this aged and cryptic form of life.

For more than a decade, SONG Il-gon has been exploring the boundaries between documentary and narrative filmmaking, blurring them along the way. His films -- including <Flower Island> (2001), <Spider Forest> (2004), and <The Magicians> (2005) -- have shown at such renowned film festivals as Venice, Rotterdam, and Tokyo FilmEx. His most recent feature, <Always>, was the 2011 Busan International Film Festival’s opening film and later took in over 1 million admissions at the box office.
poster :
Genres : Documentary
Release Date : Apr 19, 2012
Director : SONG Il-gon
Main Cast : PARK Yong-woo, Takagi Rina

A renowned old poet of Korea, LEE Jeok-yo (PARK) has adopted an untalented but devoted student, the young novelist SEO Ji-woo (KIM Moo-yul), as his protege. Their relationship is a complicated one, equal parts love and hate, admiration and criticism. It becomes further complicated when 17-year-old HAN Eun-gyo (KIM Go-eun) seeks out the aged poet. Despite an alarming age difference, Jeok-yo finds himself entranced by Eun-gyo’s charm and vibrancy. Ji-woo, a more appropriate suitor, also finds himself becoming slowly obsessed with the young girl. As this love triangle becomes more intense, resentment sets in between teacher and student, and Ji-woo must make a decision between love, lust and loyalty to his mentor.

A veteran of Korean film, JUNG Ji-woo broke out with his 1996 short film <A Bit Bitter> and soon after achieved stardom both at home and abroad with his controversial 1999 feature <Happy Ending>. Since then, he has contributed to the 2005 omnibus <If You Were Me 2>, directed the features <Blossom Again> (2005) and <Modern Boy> (2008), and helped write the script for the 2010 hit thriller <Moss>, which took in over 3 million admissions.
poster :
Genres : Romance
Release Date : Apr 25, 2012
Director : JUNG Ji-woo
Main Cast : PARK Hae-il, GIM Mu-yeol, KIM Go-eun

Since <Tropical Manila>, director LEE Sang-woo has picked up his pace in making films. Besides <Mother Is a Whore>, LEE has finished two films a year and has grown to be an important figure in the independent film scene. While <Mother Is a Whore> tenaciously deals with the collapsing relationship of a family through a mother, <Father Is a Dog> describes the relationship of a father and his unknown sons. With full of allegoric devices, LEE's films often unfold his unique and violent scenes. Through the scenes, Lee strives to seek the truth on how cinema reflects the world and also how it functions as a window to the world. When watching his films, his career as an assistant director to KIM Ki-duk stands out. However, in comparing him to KIM Ki-duk, Lee forms frames in a different way and deals with relationships more mechanically. Like a game of the father, the world in LEE's films must be a stage setting with immense gears.
A devoted wife and mother, Soon-ok suddenly learns that she has a terminal illness and is given less than a year to live. She pauses to think about the family she will leave behind: a completely helpless husband, a kind son who cares about nothing except his mother, and a daughter too busy to attend to anything but her own affairs. Soon-ok begins to prepare a gift for her family -- the opportunity to bring them together for a final farewell. Once fractured and separated, the family comes to learn that death does not have to be the antithesis of life, but can be its affirmation and awakening.

Director KIM Tae-gyun apprenticed under established Korean director K.T. KWAK (KWAK Kyeong-taek), working on his films <3PM Paradise Bath House> (1997) and <Detective K> (1998).
In Korea, Japan and the Philippines, there are many women with diverse jobs, careers and herstories. Among them, this film focuses on those who are called housewives, sex workers, dispatched workers, migrant workers, comfort women, homeless and so on. These diverse women have never met one another, and their lives look quite different from each other. However, they are connected across national borders by the one thing they do have in common: the intersection between their labor and their bodies. How can such different forms of labor be linked to the women's bodies in such a similar way? As we search for answers to this question, we are forced to confront another hypothesis: 'the meaning of labor,' as an ideology, is reproduced through society.

Through films such as <Mindullae> (1999), <Patriot Games> (2001), <Shocking Family> (2006) and <Jam Docu GANGJUNG> (2011) she has confronted issues ranging from family politics and poverty to patriotism and militarization.
poster :
Genres : Documentary
Release Date : Apr 26, 2012
Director : Kyung-soon
Main Cast :

This film portrays the survival and conflict of a family through the subtle presentation of non-fictional characters and their visceral life. Kim-Dusik, who committed a murder in Korea, has settled down in the Philippines, in the city of Manila, for almost 15 years since he fled from his homeland. He lives with his Filipino wife, Medusa and their 15-year old Kopino (Korean-Filipino) son, Philip. Dusik, His irresistible yearning for his old mother, turns into violence inflicted on his son, and sadistic sexual abuse on his wife. He only looks forward to going back to Korea as the 15 year statute of limitations runs out. Only a few months are left to be proscribed from it. As Philip grows up, he confronts his father who mistreats his mother. While he feels a strong antipathy to violence, Philip, in spite of himself, takes after his father's violent behavior. Medusa finds out that Dusik is leaving for Korea in a few months and begs him to take Philip with him to raise him as a Korean. However, Dusik believes that Philip must live in the Philippines because he is not a Korean, but a Filipino. Once Medusa, whose whole life has been dedicated to her son, realizes that Dusik will eventually turn down her first and last request, she loses hope for life and get killed by accident. Philip, who believes Dusik killed his lovely mom, burns his father's passport while Dusik is excited to reunite with his mother in Korea. This leads the father and son to an irrevocable and gruesome scene, where Dusik loses his eyesight. Dusik seems to have no choice but to stay in the Philippines to live with his Kopino son, without being able to go back to his motherland, Korea. Philip now works at the fish market where his father used to work. Their lives go on as if nothing had happened between two of them.
Chinese table tennis pro DENG Yaping, nicknamed “The Ping Pong Witch,” has previously defeated the best players from both North and South Korea, LEE Bun-hee (BAE) and HYUN Jung-hwa (HA), respectively. When the two get a chance to play together on a Unified Korea doubles team at the 1991 Chiba International Table Tennis Championships -- the first post-war unified team for the two Koreas, in any sport -- they know their combined forces will finally beat DENG and the Chinese. However, politics and dissension unsurprisingly conspire to disband the Unified team before their final match against China. HYUN and LEE must now fight for the opportunity to compete as a unified team before they can face DENG in a final showdown.

<As One> is the debut feature from director MOON Hyun-sung. The film is based on the true story of the Unified Korean team’s performance at the 1991 Chiba Championships, and the real HYUN Jung-hwa makes a special appearance in the film as the Unified team’s coach.
poster :
Genres : Drama
Release Date : May 03, 2012
Director : MOON Hyun-sung
Main Cast : HA Ji-won, BAE Doo-na, HAN Ye-ri, CHOI Yoon-young

Seul-ki and Ah-reum are in their final year at Korea’s much revered National High School of the Traditional Arts, and like other teenagers their age, they are stressing over the upcoming college entrance exam. During their final summer, they are forced to join the school choir in order to fill a remaining requirement. Their instructor, Professor HAM, uses an unorthodox approach, blending the principles of classical Western music with traditional Korean song. Well-versed in Korea’s traditional arts, they are reluctant to accept Ham’s hybrid style. They refuse to understand chords and progressions, and don’t see the point of singing in chorus. However, with time, Ham begins to open their minds to the potential of new musical forms... just as the school decides to cancel the class’s annual summer concert.

Based on a true story, Du-re Sori Story is shot in documentary style, with non-professional actors. Written, produced and directed by CHO Jeong-rae, it is his first feature.
poster :
Genres : Drama
Release Date : May 10, 2012
Director : CHO Jung-rae
Main Cast : KIM Seul-ki, CHO A-rem, HAM Hyun-sang
