- BAD GUYS Tops AD ASTRA in Post-Chuseok Weekend

Following the previous week’s five-day Chuseok holiday weekend, business cooled off significantly at the box office, as sales slowed 60% to 1.58 million admissions. Local titles remained the top draw, claiming 67% of the weekend’s business.The Chuseok champion remained in pole position during its second week, as The Bad Guys: Reign of Chaos followed its massive debut with a steep 66% drop, which left it with 661,000 sales (USD 4.88 million) over the weekend and a sturdy 3.91 million entries (USD 28.71 million) accumulated to date. Though it fared better than the other Chuseok titles, the action-thriller is unlikely to stick around for a long time on the charts.The Brad PITT sci-fi vehicle Ad Astra kicked off its run in Korean theaters in second place with 303,000 tickets (USD 2.33 million) sold over the weekend, and a total of 353,000 admissions (USD 2.69 million) over its first four days. Reservations remain healthy but PITT will face stiff competition from himself when Once Upon a Time in Hollywood opens this week.Card shark thriller sequel Tazza: One Eyed Jack was off a steep 80% in its sophomore frame, during which it sold 199,000 tickets (USD 1.48 million). The film is proving less popular than its two predecessors with 2.11 million viewers (USD 15.71 million) counted over its first 12 days.Musical comedy-drama Yesterday opened in fourth place with 147,000 sales (USD 1.07 million) over the weekend and a total of 227,000 admissions (USD 1.64 million) since its Wednesday debut.Also suffering from the post-holiday slump was the local comedy CHEER UP, MR. LEE, which ebbed 83% as it welcomed 111,000 spectators (USD 782,000) in fifth place. To date, the film has filled 1.12 million seats (USD 7.96 million).Topping the limited release chart once more was the indie hit House of Hummingbird, which slowed only 26% in its fourth weekend, during which it claimed another 11,000 entries (USD 76,000), giving it an impressive 93,000 viewers (USD 647,000) after almost a month in theaters.A pair of local titles are entering the market this week as the crime film By Quantum Physics: A Nightlife Venture and the Korean War action-drama Battle of Jangsari, featuring Hollywood star Megan FOX, will go up against the new Quentin TARANTINO film.
