  • INFERNO Opens in Second Place

New releases failed to ignite the box office as last week’s number one raked in most of the business again, accounting for over 65% of sales after a tiny drop-off. Overall, 2.2 million tickets were sold, including 70% for local releases.

Down only 11% in its sophomore frame was the surprise hit action-comedy LUCK-KEY with YOO Hae-jin. The film added 1.46 million viewers (USD 10.86 million) and has now reached a stunning 4.34 million spectators (USD 31.39 million).

Inferno, the new Ron Howard-Tom Hanks' Dan Brown adaptation opened with a lacklustre 349,000 admissions (USD 2.67 million) in third place and 473,000 tickets sold (USD 3.51 million) in five days.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children continued to drop, sliding another spot and 60% for 110,000 more admissions (USD 789,000), bringing its total to a healthy 2.67 million viewers (USD 18.87 million). Also down one rung and 70% was horror title Don’t Breathe, which added another 45,000 spectators (USD 354,000) to bring its total to 986,000 addimissions (USD 7.34 million).

Opening in a disappointing fifth place was Queen of Walking, the new vehicle for young star SHIM Eun-kyoung, which could muster only 42,000 entries (USD 293,000) in its debut and 62,000 sales (USD 429,000) since its Thursday bow.

Controversial doc Spy Nation remained the top diversity release, bringing in another 15,000 moviegoers (USD 113,000) after a 50% drop. The non-fiction title has now accrued a strong 90,000 viewers (USD 629,000).

The top of the chart is set to change up this coming week with the release of the hotly anticipated new Marvel release Doctor Strange.
