  • Gone Girl from Coming in First in Korean Box Office Race
  • by LEE Ji-hye  /  Oct 27, 2014
  • Gone Girl outstripped The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in the box office in the same period of time.

    Gone Girl
topped the Korean box office at number one. Gone Girl, the number-one film in the world box office standings these days, showed its power while beating other films in the Korean box office race. The integrated ticket sales network of the Korean Film Council announced that the extraordinary thriller drew 426,713 audiences from October 24 (Friday) to 26 (Sunday), recording 496,773 in total. This figure is worth observing compared to other commercially successful foreign thrillers with R ratings. Gone Girl’s box office scores are surprising as the film is not shown to teenagers or younger audiences in Korea.

At present, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is director David FINCHER’s biggest box office hit in Korea. The film drew 174,139 viewers in total and 461,720 in the first four days since its release in Korea. Gone Girl outstripped The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in the box office in the same period of time. Gone Girl inked 64,907 admissions in its opening day in Korea. This figure outnumbers 47,320 set by Shutter Island, the most popular foreign-made thriller film in Korea. The former led the latter by about 110,000 admissions in terms of box-office scores for the first four days since their releases since the latter drew 384,907 during the period. People are paying more attention to whether or not Gone Girl will make a new record as a foreign thriller while taking into consideration the fact that autumn is a slow season for movies in Korea.
